Thank you for visiting the website of Kiribas, the music group. I (Nick) had been writing songs on the theme of the wonder and fragility of nature since the Spring of 2020. For the first time in my life, I properly considered my relationship with nature, and started to appreciate it.
As I read about the themes around the climate crisis and the danger to nature and humanity of unchecked climate change, I was drawn to the story of the Republic of Kiribati. It is projected to be the first nation to be lost to climate change due to rising sea level. This became a focus for the album. (For further information, see the Kiribati page).
I invited Maura to join me in bringing these musical sketches to fruition. We also invited a group of friends to contribute too: Ritchie, Helen, Jo, Darcie, Isaac, Pearl, Maya, John and Eddie. We all combined under the name Kiribas- which is the pronunciation of the country Kiribati.
The result is, “Requiem for the Sixth Extinction.”
The album was recorded and mixed at Tripdown Studios by Ritchie. The artwork was completed by Jo, Bernadette, Assisi and Briony. Graham and Janet were the designers and producers of the booklet.
Emily produced the video for, “Requiem for the Sixth Extinction.”
This music is dedicated to the nation of Kiribati. The album will be available for purchase or to download on May 15th 2026. Half of profits will go towards charitable organisations in Kiribati. In the meantime- I hope you enjoy the website. I will gradually put some of the music on the site.
The flag of Kiribati
It shows the frigate bird, the Paciific Ocean and the rising sun. Kiribati is the first country to see each new day as it sits on the international date line. See the video below.

Kiribati is in the Pacific Ocean, north-east of Australia. It is a widely spread group of islands and atolls that bestride the international date line.

Requiem for the Sixth Extinction
by Kiribas
This is the frigate bird (fregata minor), the national animal of The Republic of Kiribati, a country of forty plus islands and atolls whose very existence as a nation is threatened by climate induced sea level rise. Our album, Requiem for the Sixth Extinction is dedicated to the people and nature of Kiribati. “The poor will die first, the rich will die last.”
New Year’s Day 2000 and the first nation to celebrate it- Kiribati

The frigate bird in flight. Thank you to Jo and Bernadette.
As with the people of Kiribati, the frigate bird is our emblem.
